A Fantastic Year of Sport at Wimbledon Chase

We are pleased to announce that Wimbledon Chase Primary School has yet again been awarded the Gold Sports Mark by the Merton School Sports Partnership in recognition of all the sporting opportunities provided by the school for the children.

Last year, we organised over 50 sporting events for the children at both inter and intra school level. We are proud to report that nearly one third of children from Key Stage 2 represented the school in at least one competitive sporting event. Highlights of the year include our Year 6 girls’ running team who won gold at the Merton Challenge Run, and the school swimming team who took a hatful of medals at the Merton Swimming Gala. Our Year 5 cricketers won the Plate Competition at the Surrey Kwik Cricket at Sunbury, and our Year 6 children were Merton runners-up at Tri-Golf. A special memory of the year must be when a group of 16 lucky children were chosen to meet and train with members of the England cricket team at the Wimbledon Club. Not forgetting a stunning triathlon day at the Olympic Park including swimming in the Olympic pool and meeting Tom Daley! Take a look at the WCPS Sports Calendar for 2014-2015 for the full list of sporting events last year.

At Wimbledon Chase Primary School, we strive to provide the opportunities and inspiration for children to lead healthy, active lives. We have again increased our provision of extra-curricular clubs involving physical activity. If you haven’t already done so, please take a look at our Clubs Timetable to find activities that your children will enjoy either before, during or after school. The NHS recommends that children aged between 5 and 18 should do at least 60 minutes of aerobic activity every day. So, we encourage you to take advantage of the many clubs on offer.
