INTENT FOR SPEECH, LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION NEEDS ADDTIONALLY RESOURCED PROVISION (SLCN ARP) AT WIMBLEDON CHASE
Communication, speech and language is at the heart of SLCN ARP curriculum offer. Through carefully personalised teaching sequences and a priority placed on speech and language, the ARP provides an exciting, multisensory, language rich environment where children can experience the curriculum through a wide range of activities.
We aim to develop confident and happy children and equip them with the skills to develop healthy relationships and independence. We nurture the personal qualities of every child and emphasise the importance of positive behaviour, empathy and encourage children to show it in their everyday life.
A variety of broad and meaningful experiences are planned and adapted to support each child’s individual journey where the children’s learning is enriched by real life exposure.
We provide opportunities to engage with different communities and plan activities and experiences for our pupils in the ARP so they are prepared for life in a diverse society; this is achieved through a balanced and flexible curriculum both within the ARP classrooms using resources such as the children’s Cookery room, outdoor space and educational trips.
Children have opportunities to engage with the mainstream curriculum, their peers and the wider school community with appropriate adult support and an emphasis on inclusion and equality.
We are proud that the children in the ARP feel a valued part of the Wimbledon Chase community and are equipped with the skills they need for their next stage of education.
