Design & Technology

At Wimbledon Chase, the design and technology curriculum has been developed to prepare children to deal with tomorrows rapidly changing world. It encourages children to become independent, creative, confident problem solvers and critical thinkers both as individuals and as members of a team.  With strong links to other subjects DT will broaden pupils learning across the curriculum.

We aim to encourage children to use their creativity and imagination, to research, design, make and evaluate products that solve real and relevant problems. As designers they will be given opportunity to consider their own and others’ needs, wants and values.

We are proud to be able to offer the children at Wimbledon Chase the use of a fully functional kitchen which enables them to develop the practical skills of food hygiene and preparation.  It is our aim to instil a love of cooking and ensure they develop this crucial life skill.  Through designing meals they will consider the principles of nutrition and where the produce originates. We also use food from our mini allotments so that children understand where food comes from.

Through high-quality design and technology education we aim to make an essential contribution to the ambition, creativity and well-being of each child at Wimbledon Chase.
