At Wimbledon Chase, it is our aim to provide engaging and high-quality language lessons which offer a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for all pupils.
We believe that the study of a foreign language helps children to develop communication skills and extends their knowledge of how language works, including their own.
Learning another language gives children a new perspective on the world, encouraging them to understand better their own cultures and those of others.
The teaching of a new language creates a level playing field upon which children of all abilities and backgrounds can achieve and increase in confidence.
Specialist teachers deliver a carefully-planned scheme of work spanning Years 2-6, aiming to develop the key skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing in the target language and using a variety of media. The scheme ensures progression by building on and recycling language and skills each year.
Language-learning techniques which are transferable to future language studies are embedded in the lessons. Children are encouraged to share, celebrate and use their own language experiences and backgrounds to deepen their learning.
We offer opportunities to put our language skills to ‘real-life’ use during a residential trip to France, and through our communications with our link school in Marseille.
We are proud to provide children with sound language skills and a keen enthusiasm for engaging with the wider world.
